Do Not Disturb

So, I was in a chat window with Jana today and she had customized her status message to show herself as busy and to read:

It’s going to be a LONG week of intense ePort cleanup.

Below the chat window, the email server had put up this message:

Jana is busy. You may be interrupting.

This message seemed to me to be so cold and calculating, like they’re saying, “How dare you even consider interrupting this very important person. Forget that she’s your friend. She does not have time for you right now, and she possibly never will have time for you. She will contact you if she happens to get a free moment in her very busy and important life. Please do not attempt to contact her again.”

Thanks, Gmail, I feel much better about myself now.

How very rude of Google! It’s like having my own personal butler. Doesn’t that seem like a butlerish thing to say, and doesn’t it seem as though, if you heard it aloud, it would be spoken in a butlerish sort of tone?
